Watkins Home. The Italianate Revival mansion at 603 Adams Street was built by James L. Watkins in the 1850's. The home was taken over by General Mitchell of the Union Army as headquarters for his staff during the Civil War. Mrs. Watkins had just given birth and died when the Federal army occupied the house. The house was taken over in 1864 by General John Logan to use as his headquarters.Source: Bryson Photography
