"The Huntsville Female Seminary was a private seminary for young ladies. Built by George Steele in 1831, the school was under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, and was one of the first girls' schools in Alabama. It was used as a hospital for the Federal Troops during Union occupation. The school was razed in 1909. "
