Gilbert-Cooney-Vandiver Home, Franklin Street
Built in ca. 1899 by the Gilberts, this double gabled home was lived in many years by the merchant Cooney family. The present owners, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Vandiver, bought the home in 1986. Completely redecorated, the home lends itself to entertaining. Of particular note are the gazebo-like screened back porch, brick terrace and small formal garden at the rear of the home.
Among the many owners of this house have been a Huntsville mayor and several prominent merchants. Sketched by Lee Harless, Jr., 1988.
