Fearn-King Home, Franklin Street

Dr. Thomas Fearn, known for his medical research with quinine and his development of Huntsville's first water system, built this federal-style house ca. 1820. In 1847 he hired George Steele to modify its facade in Greek Revival style. Lee Harless, Jr. 1978 sketch. Present owners are Mr. & Mrs. Olin B. King.

"We played all over the yard and house in the day when children were supposed to be seen and not heard. Uncle Willis was a colonel of the War Between the States and woe to anyone who referred to it as 'civil strife'. The Confederacy was defeated because it wore itself out whipping the Yankees."
