McDonnell-King Home, Franklin Street

Reminiscent of Cotswold cottages in England, this house was built in 1909 by architect Edgar Love. The home contains original fireplaces in almost every room and many unusual architectural elements. The dining room has a self-contained china cabinet encircling the fireplace and a plate rack surrounding the room. The home has been in the family for over sixty years. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Gene Paul King love vivid color as is evident throughout the house.

Their love for flowers is evident in the rear courtyard and pool area, and the large rose garden to the side of the house which is visible from the street. Sketched by Lee Harless, Jr., 1979.
