"Lincoln Mill started as Madison Spinning Company but folded in 1906. It reopened in 1908 as Abingdon Mill and became Lincoln Mill in 1918 when it was purchased by William Lincoln Barrell of Lowell, MA. Employees were paid low wages, but were given low-cost housing built and supplied by the mill. A rival factory, the Dallas Mill existed with a set of railroad tracks separating the employees and the housing each mill supplied. The mill ceased operating in 1957 and burned in 1980."Date: c 1929Rights: Alabama Mosaic; Huntsville Madison County Public Library
