Notes:
• Rev. John graduated from Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee. He joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church soon after he became a Christian at a young age. He was licensed to preach the gospel by Jackson Presbytery at Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the fall of 1846 and was ordained a few years later. He traveled as a Cumberland Presbyterian Circuit Rider Minister. - Roots Web
• He supported himself by farming. He was a large land holder in Big Cove, and "accumulated a good estate." He built the Drake Private School in Big Cove in 1840's. He owned a cotton gin in 1883, it was operated by horses and ginned two bales of cotton per day. The gin was located just north of Drake Cemetery on King Drake road. He died of pneumonia after riding home a twenty miles in a cold rain (after preaching/ministering). - Roots Web

1.) Nancy Jane Wortham (July 5, 1830 - June 8, 1855) on January 6, 1853. She was from Maysville, Al. She and John had 2 children. :
2.) Mary Ann Anderson (Dec. 14, 1843 - August 17, 1921) on September 18, 1866, in the Warrenton Community near Guntersville, Alabama, Marshall County. Her parents were William and N.P. Anderson. Mary Ann incurred serious injuries by a tornado in April 20, 1920, and never fully recovered. She and John had 8 children. - Ancestry.com, Trees
