•  Obituary for his mother published in Limestone Democrat, Athens, AL, Thursday, August 4, 1949
"The death of Mrs. Augusta Bibb Duncan, 78, marked the passing of a representative of one of Limestone's best known women and the severing of a link between representatives of territorial and early statehood days of Alabama and the present times.
Mrs. Duncan died at Hamil Clinic in Decatur, at 9:45 Saturday morning, her death following an illness of some weeks.
Funeral services were conducted at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the First Methodist Church, Athens, by her pastor, Dr. R.B. Lavender, and Rev. A.L. Etherton, Brown Funeral Home of Decatur was in charge.
Pallbearers were Thomas S. Woodroof, R.H. Richardson, Ed Morgan of Decatur, P.W. Hendricks, George Houston, Luke Pryor, James and Willis Hill of Mooresville.
Mrs. Duncan was born in Limestone County, daughter of the late Porter Bibb and Amelia Bradley Bibb.
In early life, the deceased married Edmond Peete Garrett of "The Cedars", present home of their only living child, Edmond Peter Garrett, well known Alabamian.
After Mr. Garrett's death in 1918, 'Miss Gussie,' as she was known to a wide circle of friends, married former State Senator, George Duncan, brother of the late Dr. L.N. Duncan, for many years president of A.P.L., Auburn, and they moved to Athens to make their home.
Mrs. Duncan is survived by her son, Edmond Peter Garrett; two grandson, E.P. Jr., and James Hill Garrett; two brothers, Bradley N. Bibb and Benajah A. Bibb of Belle Mina, and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Duncan loved life, she enjoyed young people as much as she did politics in which she was well versed. Her death removes a popular figure from the social, civic and public life of her native state." - His Mother's Obituary
