• "Mr. Dennis Garrison was a retired federal employee. He was a charter member of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1858 which was chartered at Redstone Arsenal in 1958. He was the third President of Local 1858 and then in the late 1980s he again served (two terms) as Local 1858 President.
In the mid 1960s, Mr. Garrison became the first AFGE National Vice President for the Fifth District. He went on and became the AFGE National Executive Vice President and the AFGE National President in the mid 1970s. Mr. Garrison remained active in the Union throughout his life and served as an inspiration to all who knew him." - Local 1858
• "Mr. Dennis Garrison, age 87 of Huntsville died Friday at a local hospital. Mr. Garrison was a native of Moulton and a resident of Madison County for the past 61 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in Company C, 151st Engineers. He was a member of University Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife: Eleanor Garrison of Huntsville; two sons: Carl and wife Anne Garrison of Sugar Land, Texas and Billy and wife Carol Garrison of McDonough, Ga.; three brothers: Marshall Garrison and Mize Garrison both of Hartselle and Bobby Garrison of Waterford, Mich.; three sisters: Lydia Tyler of Hartselle, Carrie Lee Thompson of Nashville, Tenn. and Fran Jenkins of Saint Joseph, Mich, three grandsons-Grant, Michael and Brian Garrison; one granddaughter: Denise Garrison; and five great-grandchildren: Brett & Reiley, Emily & Samuel and Leah. Arrangements are being handled by Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be at Spry Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 AM Monday with Rev. Eddie Hilderbrand and Dr. Walter Nunn officiating. Burial will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens in Huntsville, Ala." - Spry
