•  "Pick Gates turned 91 during Huntsville Rotary's 75th year. His wife, Martha, celebrated her 90th birthday the same month. And in this celebration year for the club, the two of them observed their 67th wedding anniversary.
She was Martha Traylor from Columbus, Ga., when she came to teach English at Huntsville High School, and they married in 1925. Throughout his years of Rotary service, which totaled 57 in 1992, Martha Gates quietly stood behind her husband in his endeavors. They proved to be many, but she participated when she could, and was a charter member of Rotaryann when that club formed in 1955." - Easterling
