• "Thomas was the 13th of 15 children born to Carey and Betsy Reed Gilbert of Prospect, TN. He's not to be confused with an older brother, Thomas R. Gilbert, who died in 1859 as a boy.
In 1880 at the age of 16, Thomas was living with a family in Pulaski and working as a clerk in a drug store. In 1900, the next available census, he is living in Huntsville, AL with his wife Lucie, and is a druggist. The 1910 Alabama census says he and Lucie had been married for 20 years, but there are no indications that they had children.
Passenger records in NYC indicate that the couple visited France in 1926, and his wife also visited there in 1927 via Canada." - Find A Grave

She was the daughter of William Henry Lanier (1818 - 1895) and Marianne S J Ford (1833 - 1886)
"William H. Lanier was the second son of Burwell Clinton and Mary Shelby Lanier, born in the state of Tennessee {in Jackson, Madison Co. TN} the 17th day of August, 1818. Reared in Madison County, Alabama, where he was educated, married, and spent a long, useful life as a cotton planter on a large plantation some ten or twelve miles from Huntsville, on which he resided in a commodious residence, where he reared a large family. On the 9th day of January, 1855, William H . Lanier married Miss Marena Jane Saluter Ford, of Madison County. She was a sister of the wife of his brother Burwell Clinton (Lanier)." - Rankin
