• "On March 10, 1937, voters of Madison County had trekked to the polls to approve legalization of the sale of alcoholic beverages, joining 23 other counties wet, and 43 counties dry. The first state liquor store ever to open in Madison County began operations in June on Jefferson Street in the Hutchens Building just north of the Grand Theatre, now demolished. C. J. Owens was manager. Clerks were T. H. Giles, Willis Latham, Douglass Martinson, H. C. Blair, and Fletcher Erwin. A decisive 'wet' vote of 2,665 to 1,729 'dry' , indicated their jobs would be safe. The 'wet' counties in 1971 numbered 30." - Record
• "Thomas H. Giles who for six years has been successfully associated with the field department of the Alabama Farm Bureau was on Friday afternoon selected as manager of the Madison county farmer's cooperative by that organizations board of directors.
Mr. Giles has proven since he has been with the bureau one of its most efficient men in the state and has been successful in organizing many bureaus throughout the state.
Madison is known as the Imperial county and the directors wished to secure for this county the best man in Alabama for aid in solving its organization problems.
The services of Mr. Giles began January first.
It was also decided by the directors that a farmers exchange would be conducted in connection with the regular work of the cooperative and that a big bulletin board would be secured for use in this department.
Arrangements were made to handle the cooperative buying of fertilizers, and an intensive campaign will be made to improve the staple length of cotton by seed improvement.
The following directors were present: W. L. Mitchell, C. O. Mann, L. W. Bailey, W. J. Dublin, W. A. Spelee, H. F. Nance, B. F. Giles, C. E. Hunt, J. E. Hays, J. K. Drake, C. T. Butler, R. W. Moon, D. F. Beasley, J. C. Erwin, M. G. Chaney." - Newspaper Abstract 1

Thomas H.
