• "Died in this County (Madison), on the 21st ult. Capt. John Graham, in the 71st year of his age. Captain Graham was an officer of the Revolution and distinguished himself under that gallant soldier Gen. Marion in S. Carolina. He was taken captive by the British and confined 8 or 10 weeks in Camden jail where he endured the privations and sufferings incident to such a confinement. After his release he joined the American Army again and continued gallantly to sustain the cause of his country throughout the war. Capt. Graham was a gentleman of amiable disposition, respected and admired by all his acquaintances. He has descended to the grave full of honors, and left a numerous progeny to deplore his loss. There are few men whose descendants count so numerously. He has left 11 children, six sons and five daughters, 50 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, 10 sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; making altogether 141." - The Democrat
