• "The 1809 Madison County census had David Gray as head of a household of 3 (a son under 21), plus one slave. Records for 1816 Madison County enumerate the Gray families as those of David, Levin, Onthew, Thomas, and William. By 1830, the records show only John W., Orson, David, and James Gray. The early land records and Deed Books mention transactions by W. Grey (9-29-1814), Jonathan Gray (4-25-1818), David & Nancy Gray (1-27-1818, for land granted Gray by U.S. on 1-28-1815), plus 10 more transactions for David Gray between 1809 and 1833. Two of the transactions by David were shared by William Gray in 1809. Other Gray transactions included John, John W., Leven, James (2-3-1818, W/2 of SW/4, S4-T4-R2W), and Thomas (11-4-1833, SW/4, S6-T4-R2W)." - Heritage
