•  "Around the turn of the century there was much talk in Huntsville about building a new opera house to replace the old one, and in 1902 the Elks began a drive to erect a new one. During the year, $4,000 was raised. In January 1905, $7,500 of the required $10,000 goal (later found to be woefully inadequate) had been raised. Frank Murphy and A. J. Murdock were in charge of solicitations. Fifty-eight life members were initiated by June 9, 1905. H. E. Garth offered to loan the lodge $35,000 as soon as the lodge raised $20,000. On March 17 a report stated that $12,875 in notes and $3,125 in cash had been raised. A special meeting on December, 1904, raised $4500. The initiation fee, meanwhile, had been raised from $15 to $25 on October 1." - Elks

•  Reeves tells the story of Horace's son's disappearance. Woven in the story are details connected to Horace. Horace suffered a stroke that partially paralyzed him. His son, Granville, took over as the president of the bank. But his mental health declined and while on a trip designed to restore his health, he mysteriously disappeared. After Granville disappeared, he and his wife moved to Huntsville. - Reeves
