• "An Ohio-born Union soldier of Vermont lineage who graduated from West Point in 1841, Brooks served in the Seminole and Mexican Wars. He commanded the Vermont Brigade of the Army of the Potomac during the Peninsula campaign and was wounded in the Battle of Savage Station.
