•  "Richard Cavett applied for revolutionary pension August 19, 1820, while living in Madison County, Alabama. He stated that he was then 70 years old and that he was born in 1765 on the headwaters of the James River in what was later Botetourt County, Virginia. While he was still a child his father, Moses Cavett, and his family moved to Sullivan County, (now in Tennessee) and that his father was in the battle of King's Mountain under Colonel Shelby. He stated that he, Richard, wanted to go to the King's Mountain battle and that he went to Colonel Shelby's quarters and begged to go but that his father, Moses Cavett, made him stay at home to protect the forts and the families. He was then only 15 years of age. He did join the service and fought in the Indian warfare on the frontier for two years during the Revolution. He continued in the service for eight years fighting Indians, making a period of ten years in all. He moved after that to Roane County, Tennessee, where he lived for 16 years. He then moved to Madison County Alabama.
Note: It is mentioned in Ramsey's Annals of Tennessee that some of the mountain men who assembled at Sycamore Shoals hoping to start on the march that resulted in the battle of King's Mountain were required to stay at home to protect the women and children." - Ancestry.com - Bio

•  "CAVETT, RICHARD an old and respectable citizen of this county, died at his residence on the 11th inst., aged 80 years and 5 months. His health had been declining for many years, and his departure from this world was anticipated by him with resignation and composure. He was a soldier of the Revolution and also of the late war; and had given frequent proofs of his devotion to this country. He was long an acceptable member of the Baptist Church and died in the faith of a happy change of existence. He was an industrious and enterprising citizen, and has realized by his own exertions an independent fortune. He has left a number of descendants and connexions to lament his loss." - The Democrat - Richard

•  "CAVETT, RUTH. Died in this county, on the 5th inst., in the 77th year of her age, Mrs. Ruth Cavett, wife of the venerable Richard Cavett, a patriot of the Revolution. Mrs. Cavett was for 54 years a professor of religion, and for the past 20 years attached to the Baptist Church. She was the mother of eleven children, who with their offspring, deeply lament the death of one whom they so much loved indeed, her loss is greatly lamented by her neighbors and all who knew her, and doubly so by the partner of her bosom." - The Democrat - Ruth
