•  "The first of the premier HHS coaches was Harry Esslinger, who came to Huntsville in the early 1920's. Esslinger, an All-Southern and All-American at Auburn (Lettered 1907, 1908, 1909), turned out a series of strong teams, particularly in 1922 when the school's 11-member (no subs) team routed several opponents, including Coffee of Florence by the resounding margin of 82-0. One member of that squad was Paul Styles, who Still lives here." p. 18 - Pruett

•  "The most locally famous group of tennis players played on courts behind the Meridianville plantation of Leslie Cummins and called themselves the 'Hog Meadow Tennis Club.' The Hog Meadow boys never lost a match in competition. Members included Basil Adams, Leslie Cummins, Virgil Uptain, Bill Popejoy, Cecil Fain, Bill Cummings, Jeff Darwin, Milton Cummings, T. T.
