Notes:

•  Served as Coroner from 1838-1853. - Record I

•  Coroner James Gaston had to serve as Sheriff for a short while in 1843, while an election contest was raging between Sheriff candidates Nowlin and Kavanaugh, the latter emerging winner. Several temperance societies were organized in the county, making their influence felt in local affairs. - Record I

•  Served as Tax Collector, 1837 - 1845 and City Assessor, 1839-1845. - Record II

•  Police Chief, 1837-1849. - Record II

•  Huntsville Alderman, 1834 & 1835. - Record II
