Chamberlin Gill

 Shoemaker

Born:c1799, Virginia

Notes:

•  Mrs. Fisk, the author of this book, spent much time collecting details about the people and times in Huntsville. Some say her fiction is more accurate than many peoples "facts" and she is such a sweet story teller. In this story she tells how people in Huntsville managed their lives during the War Between the States. Chamberlin Gill is a character in her book and is scattered through the story. He was a shoemaker in Huntsville. Leather was in short supply because all leather was going to keep shoes on the solders. But he was helping characters in the story find alternative materials and was showing them how to make these materials work. - Fisk
