•  "Music proved its popularity in Huntsville during 1928. Huntsville's civic clubs, spearheaded by the Huntsville Music Club, backed a push for starting a Huntsville High School band. The effort paid off. R. S. Goodin was named director of Huntsville High's first school band, beginning a history of musical successes at schools in Huntsville. Goodin had been director of the University of Alabama band. The public concert of the band was on January 27, 1930, at the Grand Theatre." - Record

•  Huntsville High PTA meeting: "Mrs. J. E. Pierce, president of the Huntsville Music Study Club made an interesting talk, in which she gave informative facts as to the benefits derived from a public school band, after which the Huntsville school band, under the direction of R. S. Goodin, rendered several selections. Each participant showed musical knowledge and skillful training." - HDT

•  In the 1925 University of Alabama Yearbook listed as Director of the University Band - Editor's Note

•  The Huntsville Music Study Club bought instruments for the newly organized band of Huntsville High School. R. S. Goodin was named director of the band. Goodin had been director of the University of Alabama band. - Eden
