Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery Gardiner. M. E. Gardiner, Consort of W. P. Gardiner. Aug. 8, 1837 - Jan. 19, 1869. Nalls. Rhoda Caldonia, wife of S. E. Nalls. Born Nov. 18, 1846 - Died Nov. 15, 1896. [According to Joe Nalls, she was nee Ashburn; her widower, S. Eldridge Nalls, moved to Chattanooga, Tenn. , remarried, and is buried there.] The following letter is from the late Joseph Bryan Nalls “Joe,” who is buried with many of the rest of his family in the Bush Cemetery. Even though he is not buried in the Ebenezer graveyard, his dedication to its preservation and to his many kindred buried here, is heartwarming and appreciated. This letter was dated January 15, 1991. To Whom it May Concern: “This is to certify that my late aunt, Mrs. Lillie Vann (nee Nalls), told me that she had certain knowledge that my great-grandmother, Mrs. Middleton F. Nalls, is buried in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Cemetery beside her brother, Capt. Lemuel Cobb, Co. E, 47th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., along with her (Middleton F's.) three daughters and one of her grandsons. “The daughters are as follow: 1. Mrs. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Moore, wife of Blackstone Moore. 2. Mrs. Sarah (Sadie) Ellett, wife of Lt. Joseph Ellett, Co. H, 49th Ala. Infantry, C.S.A. 3. Mrs. Alabama (Bama) Turner, wife of W. B. Turner. “The grandson is Arthur Moore, son of Blackstone and Sadie Moore. Their daughter (Sada Moore) who was very beautiful, moved to Chattanooga about 1910. She disappeared a few years later. Her last letter stated that she feared for her life and nothing was heard of her again. “The location of the six above graves is known but are presently (1991) unmarked except for Capt. Cobb, who has an upright military-type marker. “It is the intention of the family to put a low concrete perimeter around the group of six graves, with a single marker representing the five unmarked graves (i.e., it is not known in which specific grave each one is buried. “My great-grandmother was Mary G. Cobb of Cherokee County, Alabama. She is frequently listed in the census and other records by her nickname, “Lavicia” or “Lavicy.” “My great-grandfather, Middleton F. Nalls, was in 2nd Co. G, 1st Alabama Cavalry, C.S.A. which was Major Gen. Joseph Wheeler's escort. Middleton F. was killed in action on May 22, 1863, near Hartsville, Tennessee [Ref: National Archives Microcopy #311, Roll #2.] His place of burial is unknown. A bronze “In Memory Of” marker has been received from the Veteran's Administration and will be placed within the enclosure described above. “Other members of my immediate family who are buried in this cemetery are as follow: “My father: Charles M. Nalls “Grandfather: Thomas Richard Nalls. “Grandmother: Theodosia Posey Nalls (nee Gardiner). “Great-Grandmother: Sarah Gardiner (nee Bell). “Aunt: Miss Willie Nalls.” MOON CEMETERY 126 - (1109)
