Ewing-Capshaw, Sibley, Buford-Latham-Carpenter, Lemley, Big Cove Church Cemeteries BAILEY-HUGHES, LYON & STEWART CEMETERIES Location: Section 21-4-1E. In approximate center of the SW/4. Originally in Bailey Cove, approximately one-quarter mile east of the end of Four Mile Post Road. This small cemetery was surrounded by iris. I copied this cemetery in the 1960's and in 1997 it was moved to allow for a road over the mountain. The legal notice for removal was dated 19 November 1997. I do not know where it was relocated. There was only one stone in this cemetery, however, there were more graves but they were not marked. A lady living nearby said a Bailey child had been buried there. There is an unmarked grave next to that of Cynthea. It is believed by family members to be the grave of Cynthea's husband, George Hughes. Cynthea Huse [Hughes] Born May 30, 1785 Died September 6, 1847. There is no one named Huse in the 1840 or 1850 census and no probate records for anyone by that name. “Huse” is a corruption of “Hughes” according to family members. LYON [LYNES?] CEMETERY Location: Section 33-4-1E, NE SW SE. In Box Canyon subdivision on Box Canyon Street. I visited this cemetery after a major tornado had ripped through and uprooted huge trees in December 1967. Many stones may have been destroyed as I could find no Lyon tombstones. Haynes and Allens also believed to be buried here. Lyons may be a Southern corruption of “Lynes.” Anna E. Medley July 26, 1931 Aug. 10, 1932 at rest Nannie Mae Webster March 1916 Jan., 1919 W. F. Hymer Born July 29, 1888 Died Jan. 16, 1919 Doria Kelly Oct 27, 1870 March 10, 1907 STEWART CEMETERY (“African-American”) Location: Section 32-4-1E. E/2 NE SE NW. At the base of Morris Mountain behind a house on Dolphin Drive in southeast Huntsville. This cemetery was moved in 1981. I was told it was relocated in the large Northside Cemetery on Jordan Lane. Two of the graves were covered with above-ground box tombs. Lou Stewart William Henry Stewart James R. Stewart Died 1885-1943 Mar. 4, 1853 May 5, 1897 [Box tomb] Nov. 19, 1928 Age 45.
