Ewing-Capshaw, Sibley, Buford-Latham-Carpenter, Lemley, Big Cove Church Cemeteries EWING-CAPSHAW CEMETERY (“African American”) Location: Section 32-4-1E. Center of the S/2 of NW. Arthur Ewing 1886-1932 ...(illegible)... Stewart Joel Lacy 1879-1937 Hellen M. ...shaw 1892-1939 Note: Part of stone missing; the name may have been Capshaw. SIBLEY CEMETERY Location: Section 7-6-2E. N/2 NE NW NW. On section line between sections 6 and 7. There are no tombstones in this cemetery. It is in an open field and in danger of being plowed up or destroyed by a developer. BUFORD-LATHAM-CARPENTER CEMETERY Location: Section 23-5-1E. N/2 NE. Off Knotty Walls Road north of Owens Cross Roads. I crossed a small swamp to get to this cemetery. Francis R. Carpenter Wife of W. O. Carpenter. Born Feb. 27, 1844 Died August 15, 1892. Rest, sweet rest. There are several members of the Latham, Buford and related families buried here. Some had tombstones. There was a child's stone here in the shape of a cradle but no inscription. All stones (except the Carpenter stone) are now gone. LEMLEY CEMETERY Location: Section 7-6-2E. N/2 NE NW NW. On section line between Sections 6 and 7. No stones in this family cemetery. They were carried off by a past owner and destroyed. BIG COVE CHURCH CEMETERY Location: Section 2-6-1E. W/2 W/2 NW NW. This is a huge cemetery and no stones were found but there are countless sinks. There is a subdivision presently being built adjacent to it. The cemetery itself, however, has been saved by the efforts of Nancy VanValkenburgh, a descendant of some of those buried here. 168 - (1151)
