John Buford, Unknown, Neal, Esslinger & Lee Cemeteries Esslinger house after it was moved ‘down the hill'. It burned down and she used one stone taken from the chimney of the burned house as a support for the left side of her porch. On the stone are the dates 1862 and 1918. I gather that 1862 was the date the original house on the hill was constructed, and 1918 was the date it was relocated on Blevin's Gap Road. “Mrs. Hymer walked with me behind her house and to the right - back to the area where the old graves were located. She said that there used to be an old wooden post there but she guessed it had rotted. She said all of the graves were dug up and moved away. She mentioned Mr. Levi, Miss Mattie and Willie Cumberline. There were more. She said they ‘just dug up some dirt (spade full) and some bones and put them in a coffin to rebury them.' She thought they were moved to Maple Hill Cemetery.” LEE CEMETERY Location: Section 27-5-1E. NW SE SW. On old Cherokee boundary line. There were no tombstones in this graveyard and it is believed there never were any. When I visited it, it was a barn lot. This is the family graveyard of Burwell Lee from Marion County, Tennessee.
