John Drake Cemetery. Neely Drake in 1824 and who died before 1829. John T. Shannon Born August 17, 1829 Died February 8, 1858 Note: Marble stone lying flat. John T. Shannon married Rosannah E. Drake 8 Jan 1850. After his death Rosannah married Zachariah N. Drake 21 Sept 1859. John T. Shannon was the son of David and Sarah (Neely) Shannon. In Memory of Virginia A., infant daughter of George W. & Virginia A. Drake. Born May 10, 1851 Died October 8, 1851 V. Drake Note: This is the footstone of Virginia Agnes Drake, wife of George W. and mother of Virginia above. She died of complications in childbirth. She was born in 1825 and died in 1851. Her obituary is in the Southern Advocate of 4 June 1851. Census, Dec. 12, 1850 Drake, George W.35 Al Virginia A. 25 Al Edwin L. 5 Al George W. 2 Al Drake, Agnes 65 Va Andrew 25 Al Virginia 7 Al Note: George W. Drake was shown in the census as a merchant with property valued at $9,000. He was the son of Andrew Drake and married Virginia A. Drake, his first cousin, daughter of James Drake, Jan. 25, 1842. Virginia Drake, shown above as age 7, married Jack Kelly April 18, 1860 in Madison Co., Al. In Memory of Rhoda Ann, Consort of John N. Drake, was born June 26th 1821 Died November 13th 1845 aged 24 years, 4 months, and 18 days. Not lost, but gone before. Note: Rhoda Ann Drake was the dau. of James Drake and John N. Drake was the son of Zachariah Drake. They were first cousins and were married Dec. 20, 1840. Census, Nov. 18, 1850 Drake, John N. 42 Tn Wiley P. 8 Tn William F. 4 Tn In Memory of Almyra M. Cloyd wife of James B. Cloyd Born March 12, 1819 Died December 14, 1837. Note: This stone now gone. Almira M. Drake married James Brooks Cloyd 9 July 1836. After her death he married Lucinda McCravy on 22 April 1840 and they are listed on the census as follows: Census, 1850 Cloyd, James B. 35 Va Lucinda 28 Al Shelly (m) 9 Al Mary 3 Al James 5/12 Al Cloyd, Mary Ann 12 Al Note: James B. is listed as a cotton factor. In Memory of Rosannah E. Drake Born Sept. 7, 1816 Died Dec. 3, 1834 Note: She died giving birth to “Aunt Pidie” who is buried in Maple Hill Cem. Rosannah E. Drake married her first cousin, John Calvin Drake, the son of Andrew Drake, on 13 Dec. 1833. In Memory of Rosanna Drake who Departed this life on the 8th of November 1814, aged 30 years. Note: She was the first wife of James Drake. This stone disappeared from the cemetery then reappeared in 1967; it disappeared again in 1968 and reappeared 22 Oct 1991. Rosanna and husband James Drake were second cousins; she was the daughter of John Neely. In Memory of my beloved Husband George W. Drake who died November 27, 1875. The lord is merciful and gractious |.v/c| Note: George W. Drake was born Dec. 14, 1814. Note: Most of the family information was given to me by Catherine Gilliam and Bobby D.
