On Old 431 Highway not far from the intersection of Old 431 and Cherry Tree Road. It is in the NW/4 of Section 32 near the southeast bank of the Flint River and a few yards northwest of the old Cherokee Indian land boundary line. It is amazing that this cemetery still exists since after a hard rain, or flooding, the stream is a roaring torrent. The rest of the time it is a peaceful retreat nestled among old, towering trees. Bryant Cobb Born July 6, 1795 Died Aug. 21, 1881 Death records say he was born in Georgia and died of old age but the 1850 & 1860 censuses say he was born in NC. Researchers believe he was born in or near Martin Co .NC as his father, David, resided there from at least 1790-1796. He drew a pension for his service in the War of 1812. He married Polly Graceson [Grayson] with license issued 22 July 1815; no return. She is probably in the unmarked “sink” at the head of his grave. In April of 2005, a large group of descendants of the Cobb family, and authentically dressed reinactors, dedicated a military stone at the foot of Bryant Cobb's grave.[See the Huntsville Times of Sunday, April 10, 2005.] W. R. W. Cobb Who was 14 years in the service of his Country, true to his Country and true to his God. No dates on stone. He was a U. S. Senator who lived in Jackson County. He and Bryant were brothers. W. R. W. was never defeated for congress. He and his wife lived in Bellefonte in Jackson Co. Next to W. R. W's grave was the unmarked grave of an adult and next to that was the unmarked grave of a child. In the row at the head of these graves was a “sink” without any marker and was at the head of Bryant's grave. At the head of W. R. W.'s grave was that of Catharine A[nn] Cobb: Catharine A[nn] Cobb Who was full of Benevolence and Piety. This stone was overturned and no dates were visible. The stone was too heavy to turn over by hand. Catharine Ann was nee Catharine Allison, born in Ireland, and sister of John Allison. She was the wife of W. R. W. Cobb. A sister of W. R. W. and Bryant Cobb, Nancy, married John Allison. A third row. at the foot of Bryant and W. R. W. Cobb, consisted of three baby graves marked only with fieldstones at their heads and feet.
