Allison Cemetery Allison Cemetery Location: Section 3-5-2E. S/2 NW SE. This cemetery was copied 16 Aug. 1967 by the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Cochran. Mrs. Cochran (Ann) was connected to this family. The family notes have been supplied by her. Allison. John Allison Born July 28, 1802 Died January 7, 1866 [Tall obelisk stone] Allison. Nancy Allison Wife of John Allison. Died July 25, 1872 aged 61 yrs., 5 Mo. & 4 ds. [tall slab stone.] Nancy Cobb. m. John Allison Dec. 1, 1825. John was a farmer and his estate is listed as valued at $6000 in 1850. In the 1860 census it is listed as personal estate worth $15,000 and real estate valued at $57,232. John was born in Ireland and Nancy in Alabama. They had no children. John Allison was the son of William (d. 1836) and Isabella Allison (d. after John). The following family information was contributed by Ann Cochran, a descendant of Martha Matilda Allison who m. James W. Fennell. Children of Wm. & Isabella: 1. Charity Allison b. ca 1801, d. 1873. m. 1st James Cooper in 1832 and 2nd Houston H. Lea in 1840. No issue. 2. John Allison b. 1802, d. 1866, m. Nancy Cobb. Both buried in Allison Cem. No issue.. 3. Catherine Ann Allison b. ca 1803, d. 1862, m. 1825 W. R. W. Cobb, both buried in Cobb Cem. No issue. 4. David Allison, b. 1805, d. 1864, m. 1st in 1833 Sarah T. Smith, m. 2nd in 1850 Jane E. (Drake) Tate. Buried in Old Bethel Cem. Left issue. 5. William Allison Jr., b. 1808, d. 1831. No children. Never married. 6. Mary Jane Allison, b. ca 1812, d. after 1866; m. Edward T. Parker 1831. Left issue. Burial place unknown, possibly is in Marshall Co. 7. Isabella Allison, b. 1814, d. 1881, m. Francis M. Fennell 1838, bur. in Fennell Chapel in Jackson Co. Left issue. 8. Martha Matilda Allison, b. 1816, d. 1893, m. James W. Fennell 1836, bur. Fennell Cem but TVA moved to Guntersville Cem. in Marshall Co. Left issue. [Note: This is Ann Cochran's grandparents; their dau., Catherine M. Fennell, m. A. J. Esslinger (son of W. W. Esslinger); both bur. Beason Cem.] Genealogical notes: Nancy Cobb and W. R. W. Cobb were brother and sister. Francis Fennell and James W. Fennell were brothers; their father was James C. Fennell who died in 1817 and was buried in the Fennell-McMullin-Hallmark Cem. but reinterred to the Hobbs Cem. It is possible that father and Mother, William and Isabella Allison, and Son William J., were buried in Old Bethel Cemetery. William Allison and David Allison owned land near there together; Their parents lived there as stated in some legal documents. There was a bill for “walling three graves.” 215 - (1198)
