Stewart-Hunkapiller and Scott Cemeteries Stewart-Hunkapiller Cemetery Location: Sec. 12-6-1E. NE NW SE SE Alvie Lemley took me to this cemetery in a four-wheel drive vehicle. We counted twelve graves in this cemetery but only two had tombstones. The rest were marked with unlettered fieldstones. Charles W. Stewart Born July 1, 1863 Died Feb. 11, 1902 Through all pain, at times he'd smile a smile of heavenly birth, and when the Angels called him home he smiled farewell to earth. Note: Charles W. Stewart is the son of Chapman Stewart and his wife, Catharine A. Harrison. Robert M. Hunkapiller Aug. 25, 1887 Sept. 2, 1952 Scott Cemetery Location: Section 11-4-2E. Approximately in center of section on Gurley Mountain. This cemetery is a long distance off the main road and can be reached only by walking. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Haislip took me to this cemetery on 9 March 1985. The following was a four feet tall sandstone obelisk. It is copied here exactly as it appears on the stone: IN MEMO OF T R. THE SON OF J W & M A SCOT T DEP. THIS L IFE NOV. 2. 1855 AGE 2. YEA & 3 M. OTHS Translation: In memory of T. R., the son of J. W. & M. A. Scott Departed this life Nov. 2, 1855 Age 2 years & 3 months Note: The Southern Advocate of 28 Nov 1855 reported that Thomas Reuben, son of John W. and Margaret Scott, died on Nov. 2nd aged 2 years, 2 months, 2 days 234 - (1217)
