Benjamin Franklin Whitaker
The Huntsville Times, in an article by Lane Lambert, Times staff writer, of Sun., March 14, 198__[blank] has a very interesting article on marking the grave of this Confederate Civil War soldier by his great grandson.
“Nineteen-year-old Benjamin Franklin Whitaker joined the 49th Ala. Infantry Regiment at the beginning of the war. “He saw action at Shiloh, Vicksburg,
Chickamauga and
Chattanooga.
“When the Confederacy surrendered he returned to Madison County, married Lou Davis and lived out his life as a farmer. He died in May, 1920.
