York. - March 4, 1942. KINCAID CEMETERY (9) LOCATION: Section 35-1S-2W. C. SE/4. Off Pulaski Pike near Madison Cross Roads. Note: This cemetery is no longer in existence. The cemetery has been plowed over and the tombstones were removed from their original location by persons unknown. They were later found on a trash dump nearly a half-mile from their original location and were donated to the Alabama A&M College in order to preserve them. They are of historical significance in that they are the only two permanent markers, known to exist in Madison County, which marked the graves of slaves. Many ex-slaves have markers. EDMUND - In memory of Edmund, servant of Miriam Kincaid, born June 9, 1831, died Sept. 8th, 1857. POLLY - In memory of Polly, servant of D. C. Kincaid, born April, 1817, died June, 1856. Note: These stones are of well-cast cement with shallow, hand lettering. The lettering was well executed. 34 - (251)
