Cooper - Penland Cemetery, 80-1 Summary Report, page 1

COOPER - PENLAND CEMETERY, 80 - 1 Summary Report The house shown above in the town of Madison, Alabama, has a direct connection to the Cooper - Penland Cemetery on Redstone Arsenal. It was the home built by James Cooper for his bride Charity Allison Cooper in the mid-1800s. Originally, it overlooked the Tennessee River, from about a mile north of its banks. Of course, the house as shown here in August of 2005 has been extensively renovated, but it is indeed the old Cooper house, just relocated to the northwest corner of the intersection of Eastview Drive with Metaire Lane in Madison. The house was moved into Madison from the arsenal by Tyler and Evelyn Darwin in 1977. Below are notes made of a telephone conversation with Mrs. Darwin about the house and its move and it history. 1 - (2725)
