Cooper - Penland Cemetery, 80-1 Summary Report, page 34

Cemetery. All of these parcels were acquired from other prominent plantation owners of the area who were significant in the history of the land that became the arsenal. The lands in Madison County that Alexander Penland sold were recorded in the index below. The last transaction to Laura Lanier was executed by the Trustee of his estate, since he died in 1896. Since the Cooper - Penland Cemetery is located on the section line between Sections 19 and 20 in T5-R1W, it is strange that none of the index entries show Alexander involved in either purchasing or selling land in either of those sections. However, he could well have come into possession of the land around the cemetery by his marriage to Isabella J. Allison. If she outlived him, any sale of that land would be recorded with her as Grantor. 34 - (2758)
