Leila Madison Early records on this property show that it was owned by Captain William Mason and his son John, and it is possible that William built the house. Captain William Mason, son of William and Mary (Gilliam) Mason, married Rebecca Richardson, daughter of Jourdan and Elizabeth (Mason) Richardson, in Greensville County, Va., on Aug. 9, 1800. They came to Limestone County soon after 1820, and Captain Mason served as judge of the county and probate court from 1828-1835. While Axford and Edwards apparently did not know the death date of Absalom Looney Jr., the Madison County Court records include a file for his estate. All that remains in the file is a partial inventory of his personal property, received in the court clerk's office December 2, 1818. An additional partial listing of Absalom's personal property was delivered to the clerk on June 22, 1819, as shown below. 7 - (3229)
