October 2, 1823 SOPHIA BATES administratrix of the estate of WILLIAM BATES, deceased, advertises for runaway slave. J.M. BATES, administrator of the estate of LEONARD CARDIN, deceased. November 1, 1823 Died at his residence near Cahawba, Dallas County, Ala. on the 20th, JAMES S. GAINES aged about 45. In the forepart of the summer, his family were visited with a fever of a very malignant type, which swept off his wife and one daughter... he lost a son at St. Stephens... JOHN C. O'REAR, deceased. I do not know where it is now. Perhaps the Library at Eutaw. May 17, 1830 Married on Sunday evening the 9th instant by REV. J.H. WELLS, Mr. JEREMIAH SANDERS to Mrs. LUCY GRIGGS, both of this county. CAPTAIN DENNIS MCGUIRE and those under his employ were engaged in freighting barge, Fox at Demopolis, Marengo County. An explosion occurred and he died the Friday following. He was an Irishman by birth, and formerly a resident of New York, but had resided in this state six or seven years. State of Alabama-Greene County. Orphans Court, May Term 1830. Note: MEEK married the widow ELIZA WEBB in 1826. See our Vol. 17, p. 56. May 31, 1830 Died Saturday, the 22nd instant in Greensboro, Alabama, Mrs. NANCY C. HILLHOUSE in her 37th year. Left a large circle of relatives and friends. She professed religion in 1812; was a tender wife, mother and mistress. She left a husband and three little daughters. Died at his residence in this county on the 25th inst. Mr. GREEN HILL in the 57th year of his age, leaving large and respectable connections. (Communicated.) Died Saturday night, 29th inst. CAROLINE, daughter of ISAAC C. and SARAH C. SNEDECOR, aged four months. Died in Tuscaloosa Tursday 25th inst. at half past twelve Mrs. MARY AMELIA THORNTON, wife of JAMES J(INNIS) THORNTON, Esq., Secretary of State. She was aged 21 years and 5 months.
