Mr. and Mrs. THOMAS SIMMONS of Chilton Co. have buried 24 children in one graveyard. Only one of them lived to maturity. The aged couple live alone. January 21, 1876 Married on the 17th at residence of Mr. R.H. HALE by REV. C.M. HUTTON, Mr. ALBERRY W. OWENS and Miss LIZZIE MCALPINE, both of this county. Died at the residence of his father, Mr. JAS. W. MAURY (27V) in Kemper Co. Miss. Dec. 24, 1875 in his 27th year, RICHARD HARRIS MAURY (1A). Educated at Spring Hill College near Mobile... In 1871 he entered U of Va. and graduated the same year in literature and in 1873 in law. Soon after his return home, he removed to Ark., settled in Little Rock. On 16 Dec. last, he came on a visit to his father, where he anticipated spending a happy Christmas with his parents and brothers. State Items - On the night of 5th, the wife of CAPT. BENJAMIN R. HARRIS living near New Hope committed suicide. February 4, 1876 Mr. GREEN B. LOWE (25A), a well known citizen of South Sumter died suddenly near Black Bluff some three weeks ago. J.M. MASON, a Henry County planter was drowned in Alabama River week before last. February 11, 1876 Married on the 3rd, by REV. J.S. FRIERSON at the residence of bride's father, DR. D.D. BRIGGS, Mr. T.O. RHYNE of Sumter Co. Ala. and Miss C. BRIGGS of Kemper Co. Miss. Tribute of respect. Of our beloved brother WILLIAM I. ALLEN who died Oct. 2, 1875. Sumpter Lodge #166. Copy sent to widow. DR. J.H. TAYLOR and Miss FANNIE MOSBY of Gainesville were married on the 1st. February 18, 1876 Married on the 10th by REV. J.M. PATTON at residence of Mrs. WIMBERLEY in Sumter Co., Mr. A. HINKLE and Miss EUGENIA WILSON. Mr. I.D. HOIT, an old citizen of this county left Wed. for Texas accompanied by son WILLIAM. Mrs. S.M. REAVIS, widow of the late JUDGE REAVIS of this county, has removed to Natchez, Miss, her former home. Mr. JOSEPH HERRING of Gainesville died of typhoid pneumonia last wee, State Items - COMMODORE VICTOR M. RANDOLPH died at residence of his son near Blount Springs a few days ago. March 3, 1876 Married on the 12 Jan. 1876 in Bellevue, La., Mr. JAMES H. GRIFFIN (formerly of Gainesville, Ala.) and Miss JULIA V. MCSPADDEN. March 10, 1876 Married on 29 at residence of Mr. J.F. WILLIAMSON by REV. J.M. PATTON, Mr. WILLIAM CARROLL and Miss VIOLA CURRY, all of this county. On the 24th at residence of bride's mother, by REV. J.S. FRIERSON, Mr. JOHN J. ALTMAN, Esq. and Miss CORA A. LOCKARD, all of this place. Miss MARY GRIGGS and Mrs. JOHN CALLOWAY died in Gainesville week before last. 37. - (3337)
