DELILAH MCDANIEL (44T) was born in Davidson Co. Tenn. April 27, 1807. Her parents, JOHN and MARGARET HARRIS moved to Washington Co. Ala., then a part of Mississippi Territory and settled in the vicinity of St. Stephen. On Feb. 20, 1827 she was married to HENRY MCDANIEL of North Carolina, who survives her; united with Methodist Church June, 1831 under joint ministry of REVS. JOHN A. COTTON and A.A. DICKENSON. About 1835, with her husband, she removed to Sumter Co. Ala. recently purchased from the Choctaw Indians and were among the first settlers of Sumterville, and, we may say, of the county. Their names were the first enrolled on the record of the Methodist Church in that village, BRO. WILEY THOMAS preaching. She died March 10, 1876...To her only living daughter she said "Train your child right." To a son in Texas: "Tell ASBURY to meet me in heaven." Turning to Mrs. WILSON she said: "You must pray now for ASBURY in my stead." Estate of HENRY D. OATES (M. in Con. - 30NC), deceased. Estate of SUSAN LYNCH, deceased. Estate of W.W. PAYNE, deceased. Estate of JESSE HUTCHINS, deceased. Estate of J.B. RAMBO (26A), deceased. May 19, 1876 GEO. U. WALKER, Esq. and Miss CORNELIA RUSSELL of Gainesville were married on the 2nd. May 26, 1876 Mr. ROBERT W. BREWER (31A), a former well-known citizen of this place, but for several years a citizen of Wilcox, died of meningitis on 9th. June 2, 1876 Mr. W.W. CROOME, the father of Mrs. E.W. BELLAMY of Gainesville died in Rome, Ga. and was buried in Eutaw, Ala. on the 2nd. Married on 17th at residence of Mr. J.W. THETFORD by REV. ROBERT CALDWELL, Mr. JAMES W. LEE and Miss S.E. HOPPER, all of this county. June 9, 1876 COL. R(OBT.) G. MCMAHON (36V) contributes to the Dispatch copies of two letters written by his grandfather and dated respectively Sept. 26 and Oct. 28, 1774. The writer, JOHN MCMAHON was then serving in the Colonial army in Virginia, fighting the Indians. MAJ. SIMON HALL (28NC) has shown us a pocket-book over 100 years old. It is in possession of Mrs. ANN M. WARD (40G-wife of THOS. B.?). It was made for one of her North Carolina ancestors and bears the name and date "ENOCH WARD, May 21, 1776" wrought in needlework. June 16, 1876 REV. GEORGE B. WETMORE of North Carolina, brother of our townsman, COL. T.B. WETMORE (29NC), will deliver a free lecture on temperance. June 23, 1876 We had a pleasant visit this week from our venerable friend, HENRY MCDANIEL, one of the earliest settlers of Sumter. State Items - The wife of PROF. E.Q. THORNTON of Marion died on the 8th. June 30, 1876 Married on the 27th in Episcopal Church, Livingston, Ala. by REV. S.U. SMITH, Mr. JNO. S. JOHNSTON and Miss M.V. THORNTON. We are pained to learn that the wife of E(DWIN) K. FULTON, Esq. (11A; son of WM. F.) formerly of Sumter but now of Birmingham died at the latter place on 23rd. July 7, 1876 Married in Bryan, Texas May 11, 1876 DR. F.M. HALL and Miss ELLA GILLESPIE (6A-daughter of JOHN C), the latter formerly of Livingston, Ala. 39. - (3339)
