State Items - CAPT. P.U. MURPHY of Mobile died of apoplexy a few days ago. M.E. MACARTNEY, Esq., County Solicitor of Mobile died last week. Mr. BILLY WARD, aged 88, of Conecuh Co. walked 6 miles to the polls on the 7th. COL. SAM WELBORN of Russell Co. died some months ago. Left his wife and family $35,000 insurance. September 1, 1876 Mr. JOHN H. GARNER (38NC) who died in Mobile last week was formerly a citizen of Gainesville. He resided there from 1837 to 1845. (1850 Census of S. Co.) Visit from Mr. HENRY MCDANIEL, bordering on 4 score years. Revisited many localities in West Alabama and East Mississippi with which he was familiar some 40 years ago. Died of diphtheria at the residence of their parents, J.Z. and KINNIE TUTT near Belmont, Sumter Co. Ala. on the 14th of August, little LAURIE aged 4 years 7 months 19 days and BIRDIE. Miss C(ONSTANCE) L. RHODES, daughter of JAMES and ELIZABETH RHODES died at the residence of DR. A.M. GARBER, Sumter Co. Ala. Sunday morning Aug. 13, 1876 in her 43rd year...From childhood was under hand of affliction... September 8, 1876 CASWELL EADS, Mobile, Ala. advertises his plantation near York for rent. September 22, 1876 A veteran, Mr. JABAL FAULKNER (52SC), of York Beat and upwards of 80 years of age rode to town last Friday to hear the Governor. Died in this county on the 8th, Mrs. ELIZABETH PHARES (45T), widow of the late Mr. J(OHN) C. PHARES (53NC) in her 72nd year. (She was daughter of REV. JAS. MONETTE and 2nd wife RACHEL FLETCHER. ) Died on the 12th at Warsaw, this county, Miss KATE BAKER aged about 20. On the 14th near Sumterville, in this county, Mr. SLATER DOZIER. BELL, ELIZABETH COLEMAN, and HARRIS COLEMAN are non-residents; JEMISON, WALKER, BORDEAUX, E.A. COLEMAN and BELL are over 21 and reside in Lauderdale Co., Miss.; MAURY, over 21, resides in Kemper Co., Miss., Shuqualak is her P.O.; ELIZABETH and HARRIS COLEMAN under 21 and reside with their mother, E.A. COLEMAN; SAMUEL K. HARRIS and ROBERT W. HARRIS, over 21 and reside in New Orleans, La. October 6, 1876 W.B. PARHAM and E.C. HUTTON, law partners, Gainesville, Alabama. October 13, 1876 Married at Isney, Choctaw Co. Oct. 4, 1876 by REV. W.H. WILD, Mr. HENRY MCDANIEL of Sumterville, Sumter Co. to Miss PERMELIA HARRIS of Isney. Died near Coatopa Sta. on 10th, Mr. GEORGE MORRIS (48NC), an old and highly respected citizen of Sumter. JOSIAH MOORE, deceased. R. CHAPMAN, Jr., administrator. October 20, 1876 Died near Cuba Sta. on morning of 16th, Miss SARAH BROWN aged 96. State Items - Mrs. CHARITY UPTON died on Sand Mountain the other day aged 99 years 8 months and 7 days.
