The St. Clair Aegis trots out Mr. WARREN DAVIS of St. Clair Co. as the champion old man of the state. He is now 100 and 10 years ago married his second wife. February 16, 1877 Died in Sumterville, this county, on the 4th, Mrs. SARAH ELIZABETH HATTEN aged 26-1-22. February 23, 1877 Married on the 15th at Cuba Sta. by REV. GEO. BANCROFT, Mr. EDWARD HALL and Miss LENORA KNOTT, all of this county. Married at the residence of Mrs. N.A. STONE in Warsaw, Sumter Co. Ala. on 7th by REV. N.A. MCNEIL, Mr. W.H. ROGERS of that place and Miss HALLIE R. WILLIAMS, daughter of Mr. JOHN B. WILLIAMS, Sr. late of Greensboro, Ala. Died on 5 Feb. infant daughter of FELIX and DORA MCMILLAN aged 10 mo. March 2, 1877 Married Feb. 1, in Washington Co. by REV. J.C. JOHNSON, DR. JNO. D. JOHNSTON of Sumter and Miss OLIVA L. HOOKS of the former col Mr. NATHAN AMASON (49NC), one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this county died suddenly of heart disease Sat. last at his residence near Sumterville aged 77. March 9, 1877 Died in Livingston Sat. eve Feb. 24, little PETER, infant son of A.P. and J.H. EVANS aged 1 year 16 days. Bristol (Tenn.) News and Mansfield (La.) Reporter are requested to copy. Died at the residence of DR. PERKINS in Oktibbeha Co. Miss. Feb. 20, 1877, CAPT. GEORGE WASHINGTON... Born in Edgefield District, S.C. on 24 Sept. 1826 and was at the time of his death in his 51st year. Graduated with honor at University of Alabama before he was 21. Then studied law with JUDGE ORMAND of Tuscaloosa and entered upon practice at Carrollton, Pickens Co. Ala. Afterward moved to Louisville, Miss, and formed a partnership with JUDGE ROBERT S. HUDSON and sometime thereafter formed a partnership with HON. J.A.P. CAMPBELL, now one of the Associate Judges of Supreme Court of Miss, with whom he practiced for several years in town of Kosciusko... Married Miss MARGARET S. CROMWELL, daughter of P.S. CROMWELL, formerly an esteemed citizen of Sumter Co. Ala. He settled and commenced farming and from thence forward to time of his death led the quiet life of planter in Oktibbeha Co. Miss. In 1861, he entered ranks of Confederate army, commanded a company of Miller's Regiment of Cavalry. Surviving are his mother, wife and children... State Items - JOHN COX, residing near Ashville fell dead on 20th. CAPT. FRANK M. JOHNSON, the oldest of Mobile's River Men died in Birmingham last week. JAMES T. SMITH has been appointed Tax Collector in Greene Co. vice J.D. KIMBROUGH, dead. Miss ELIZA WHITFIELD, a demented sister of PROF. H.S. WHITFIELD, was accidentally burned to death in Tuscaloosa last week, aged about 65. Mr. BRANTLY STEPHENS was run over by a train near Fleming's Sta. a few nights ago and instantly killed. March 16, 1877 Married on the 18 at residence of S.W. BARNES by REV. A.G. GROVE, Mr. JNO. W. BELL and Miss MAGGIE BARNES, all of this county. Died on 12 near Intercourse (Sumter Co.), JOHN A. MCDONALD aged 33. Died near Belmont, Sumter Co. Tue. Feb. 20, Mrs. ELIZA MCREE (30A-wife of WM.), nee GILLESPIE in her 59th year. Member of M.E. Church South....J.M.G. JOHN M.
