contemplate the venerable depatted worthy; with the loftiest sentiments of love and gratitude. Resolved that we deeply sympathize with his family in their affliction. Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the family of the deceased. Resolved that the citizens of Tuscaloosa, the clergy of the city, the Professors and students of the University, the officers of the State, and the several societies, trades and Professions be respectfully requested to join the procession agreeably to the order of proceeding published by the committee of arrangements at 4 o'clock this afternoon; and that in token of respect to the virtues of the deceased, it be respectfully requested that the stores may be closed, and business suspended at that hour. Resolved, that if it be agreeable to the family of the deceased that the Tuscaloosa Guards be respectfully requested to join the procession in military order. Resolved that a committee of ---- be appointed by the Chair to superintend and direct arrangements for the funeral. Whereupon, the chair appointed Messrs. CRABB, KING, BATTLE, J.D. PHELAN, CLYDE J. Died in this city on the 17th inst., Mr. WILLIAM HUTCHINSON. August 11, 1839 Died at Washington City, on the 25th ult. COMMODORE DANIEL T. PATTERSON, Commandant of the Navy Yard at that place. His illness was violent and of short duration. The deceased was in the Naval service about forty years, and was a midshipman in the Philadelphia frigate, when she was lost on the Tripolitan Coast in the year 1803. Commodore Patterson was a native of Long Island and at his death was about 58 years of age. General Naval Order: As a Mark of respect to the memory of COM. DANIEL T. PATTERSON, late of the United States Navy, who died at Washington on the 25th inst., the flags of the Navy yard, Stations and vessels of the United States Navy are to be hoisted half mast and nineteen minute guns fired at noon on the day of the receipt of this order. HENRY HITCHCOCK, in the 48th year of his age. Died at Windsor, the residence of COL. PAUL FITZSIMMONS, near Augusta, Ga. on the 12 inst., COL. DAVID W. ST. JOHN. August 28, 1839-Same p. 3, column 2. Died in the city of Mobile on the evening of the 16 inst., Mrs. ELIZA CASEY, relict of the late DR. THOMAS CASEY of that city. September 11, 1839 Died in Augusta on Thursday morning the 4th inst., after a short illness, Mrs. SARAH WALTON, relict of the late JOSIAH WALTON and sister of the late GOVERNOR CLARKE of this state in the 72 year of her age. She had been an exemplary member of the Baptist Church for about thirty five years and contemplated her approaching dissolution with that tranquil resignation and peace of mind, which evinced her preparation for a change of worlds. She retained her senses to the last moment of her existence and aware that her end was approaching, she expressed her willingness to depart in the full assurance that she was about to enter upon higher enjoyments than the present world could possibly afford her. Her children and grandchildren and those who knew her in life will long retain an affectionate remembrance of her worth. 50. - (3350)
