(Com) April 7, 1841 Died of consumption after a painful illness of several months, on the morning of the 4th inst. at the residence of COL. HENRY H. COOK in this city, Mrs. ANN B. relict of the late F. S. COOK aged 37 years. She has left six children to mourn their irreparable loss. The deceased was a lady of highly cultivated mind, amiable in all the relations of private life and greatly esteemed by those who knew her and in her death our society has sustained a loss which it will be difficult to repair. She had been for many years a member of the Baptist Church; and it is grateful to be friends to remember that in her last moments the cheering influence of the Christian religion, shed a softening light over the otherwise rugged scenes of the death bed. A Friend. July 7, 1841 Death of MAJOR GENERAL MACOMB. Our Washington letter announces the death of this distinguished officer of the last war with Great Britain. He was a gallant commander and an amiable man. The victory of Plattsburg crowned him with laurels on the plain. July 14, 1841 Died at his residence in Russel Co., Ala. on the 20th ult, DR. BURWELL INGRAM after an illness of six days in the 31st year of his age leaving a widow and two children and a numerous circle of friends and relatives to mourn their irreparable loss. He was born in the County of Dinwiddie, Virginia and with his father removed to the county of Hancock, Ga. in the year 1818. After completing a thorough medical education, DR. INGRAM commenced the practice of his profession and his skill and fidelity will long be remembered by the citizens of Hancock. Once elected to the house of Representatives (in 1835) and twice to the Senate of the State (in '36 and *37). He discharged his public duties with credit to himself and advantage to his constituents in 1839, he settled upon his farm in this state. In the character of our deceased friend, there was a rare union of gentleness and firmness; of nice perceptions of honor and a tender regard for the feelings of others; of modesty and of courage, of confidence in himself, and a liberal and just appreciation of his fellow men. He was kind and sincere in all the domestic and social relations of life. And as a master, was obeyed more from the attachments of his dependents than from their fears. In his professional character, the afflicted hardly knew which most to admire, the clear judgement and medical skill which he exercised or his gentleness of manner and kind sympathies which fall upon the fainting spirit of the sick man. "Like due." He died calmly and with a strong assurance of future happiness. He lived without reproach and he died without fear. Russell County, Ala. Geo. Argus August 4, 1841 Death of a Hero - GEN. SAMUEL DALE, one of the bravest of the pioneers of the Southwest died at his residence in Lauderdale County, Mississippi on the 23 of April. A writer in the Natchez Free Trader relates the following incidents in his life: As a scout - a pilot to the emigrants who blazed the first path through the Creek Nation from Georgia to the Tombigbee, with arms in their hands; and subsequently as a spy among the Spaniards at Pensacola and as a partisan officer during the most sanguinary epochs of the late war present at every butchery remarkable for hair breadth scapes; for caution and coolness in desperate emergencies; for exhibitions of gigantic personal strength and undaunted moral courage - his story is shudded over with spirit stirring incidents, unsurpassed by anything in legend or history.
