JUDGE A(LEX.) B(ARON) CLITHERALL (29 SC), a well-known citizen of this state died at his residence near Montgomery on the 17th. The Meridian Mercury states that DR. N. B. KENNEDY of that place and formerly of this county has removed to New Orleans. WILLIAM P. PHIFER (34 SC), an old and respectable citizen of Tuscaloosa was shot down in his own yard Monday night of last week. He died the next day. Murderer unknown. March 5, 1869 Married February 23 by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, Mr. J. F. WIATT and Miss LEW E. COLE, all of this county. COL. HARRY MAURY, a well-known citizen of Mobile and former commander of the 15th Confederate Cavalry died last week. JAMES HILL shot and killed his nephew of the same name in Bibb County on the 17th. Dispute about land. Mr. P(HILLUP) J. SIMPSON (8 A, son of JOHN P.) of Washington County living near Choctaw line was killed last month by J. H. JORDAN. SIMPSON leaves a wife and three children. March 12, 1869 Died on the morning of the 9th at the residence of WM. KIRKLAND near this place, BERNARD WINFREE (37 V) aged 56 years, native of Virginia and a printer, having learned the art in Richmond under FATHER RITCHIE. He had been a resident of this place about 18 years and of Alabama nearly 30 years. Mrs. ANNA LUSK died in Madison County last week at the age of 107 years. CAPT. JESSE J. COX, an old Alabama river steamboatman died in Mobile last week. JOHN T. FOSTER, Probate Judge of Choctaw County. HIRAM PIERCE has been appointed Sheriff of Butler County and IRA SCOTT Tax Collector, both old citizens and worthy men. Mr. B(ECKMAN) D. PALMER (31 NC, Greene Co. Census) of Eutaw died on the 3rd from injuries received on the 27th. Two intoxicated young men threw a brickbat, fracturing PALMER's skull. Leaves a wife and 6 children. March 19, 1869 Married on the evening of March 15th at the residence of the bride's father by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, DR. P. D. COULSON of Texas to Miss ETHELDRA A. JOHNSTON of this county. PAYTON BAUGHN, Probate Judge of Winston County was killed by a man named GARRISON week before last. March 26, 1869 Died on the 8th of March at his late residence near Belmont, Sumter County, THOS. L(UDWELL) BEVILL (38 A, son of WOODLIFF BEVILL, ancestor of Mrs. W. B. SMITH, Nash, Tenn.), late Sheriff aged about 54 years. Eutaw Whig and Meridian Mercury copy. April 2, 1869 - Friday THOS. M. JOHNSTON (48 NC), an old and highly respected citizen of Greensboro died Thursday of last week. JOHN A. DOUGLAS, who killed JOHN W. WEAVER in 1865 was tried at late session of Circuit Court for Madison County at Huntsville and acquitted. Dwelling of Mrs. NANCY WEATHERFORD at Red Hill, Wilcox County was burned March 15th. April 9, 1869 Died near Sumterville on the 5th, Mrs. MARTHA 0., wife of ISAAC R. WILSON. Town of Stevenson (Jackson County) has been incorporated. GEORGE W. RICE, Mayor. REV. J. D. EASTER, former Rector of Christ Church, Tuscaloosa, has accepted a call to Rectorship of Trinity Church, St. Louis, Mo. Mr. GEO. H.
