May 28, 1869 Died in this county on the 21st, Mrs. MARY ARRINGTON (38 T), consort of the late COL. WM. ARRINGTON (48 SC) of this county, member of the Baptist Church. Leaves 3 sons. ANDREW J. MITCHEM was killed by PETER SIMMONS in Madison County last Thursday week. Diffuculty grew out of settling some business affairs. On Monday night of last week, JAMES E. HARRIS shot and killed his brother-in-law, R. R. BAILEY in Montgomery. Self defense. June 4, 1869 JOHN HURTEL, one of the old French citizens of Mobile died a few days ago. JUDGE C(URTIS) N(ASH) WILCOX (34 Miss), formerly of Choctaw has removed to Meridian, Miss. Residence of A. T. RHODES at Talladega was consumed by fire on Monday of last week. C. W. HATCH appointed Postmaster at Greensboro vice Mr. W. S. KELLY, removed. A. R. DAVIS, Probate Judge of Greene County. Residence of DR. J. BREITLING three miles south of Butler, Choctaw County destroyed by fire last week. DEMPSEY WILLIAMSON of Northport, Tuscaloosa County, while laboring under mental aberration hung himself on Tuesday of last week. June 11, 1869 Married on the 1st at Meridian, Mississippi, Mr. THEODORE STURGES of that place to Miss ALLIE McINNIS of this county. Married on May 31 at the residence of the bride's father near Ramsey's Station, Mr. LEVI G. HURLBUTT of Meridian, Miss, to Miss SALLIE V. WILLINGHAM (1 A, daughter of PHILLIP) of this county. "Brother ALFRED OWEN departed this life on 4th of May; native of South Carolina and removed to Alabama and became a resident of Sumter County some years ago, where he pursued planting interest with success... copy be sent to bereaved widow." KNOX, one of the oldest citizens of Montgomery and formerly President of Central Bank of Alabama died in that city a few days ago. MICHAEL WHELAN, an old citizen of Selma committed suicide last week by jumping in the river and drowning. June 25, 1869 Married at Gaston, Alabama on the 22nd by REV. S. M. THAMES, COL. W. B. GERE of Chicago, Ill. to Mrs. AUGUSTA M. CROOM of Gaston. We learn that ARTHUR A. SMITH, brother of Judge LUTHER R. SMITH has been appointed Superintendant of Education for Greene County. July 2, 1869 Married on the 23rd by REV. G. W. BROWN, G. W. ROGERS to Miss MARY S. HOOKS all of this county. The West Alabamian announces the death of DANIEL J. HARGROVE (58 NC), an old and highly esteemed citizen of Pickens County. Mrs. NANCY STROUD of Lee County died a few days ago aged 84. Had been married 66 years and her husband is still living. COLUMBUS LEE (39 G) of Perry County died at his residence near Uniontown on the 23rd. For many years an active politician and had extensive acquaintance in East Alabama. July 9, 1869 Married at the residence of the bride's father June 29th by REV. W. H. PASLEY, Mr. J. F. ORMAND to Miss ELLA, youngest daughter of E. N. BRYANT, Esq. all of this county. 90. - (3390)
