A plantation in Greene County known as the "Montague Place" and containing 800 acres was sold for $25.50 per acre. A personal difficulty occurred in Eutaw Monday the 8th between JAMES SHEPPARD and SAMUEL B. BROWNE, which resulted in the shooting and severe wounding of the former by the latter. December 3, 1869 Married at the residence of GREEN W. GRANT on the 25th by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, JOHN W. BELL of Lauderdale County, Mississippi to Miss MARY E. MANLIE (1 A, daughter of NARCISSA E.) of this county. Married on the 25th by LEWELIN LEWIS, Esq., Mr. JOHN A. HARBINSON to Miss MARTHA A. HAGGARD, all of this county. Married on the 18th by REV. J. K. RYAN at the residence of the bride's mother, THOMAS J. LEE to Miss M. A. WOODALL. JAMES A. OWEN, an old citizen of Choctaw County was struck down with paralysis last week. Reward of $1,000 offered for the arrest of GILES C. EFURD, charged with killing CALVIN SMART near Louisville, Barbour County. EX-GOVERNOR PATTON is about to become a citizen of Montgomery. His property in Florence, where he has resided for many years is offered for sale. The widow of NEWELL E. THOMAS (who was murdered by the Attorney General of Alabama), late Editor of the Choctaw Herald is teaching school in Butler. An estate of $500,000 for the relatives and heirs of JOHN C. CLARK, who removed in the year 1825 or thereabouts to Alabama or Mississippi and thence to Texas is advertised. Mr. MEYER CRAMER, the oldest man we personally ever knew died in this place on Monday the 8th in his 102nd year. Native of Asselheim, Bavaria. Fought as a soldier under the 1st Napoleon all through his numerous campaigns, was in the disastrous retreat from Moscow and remained in the French army until the fall of the great Capt, and his final banishment to St. Helena. He then settled in Germany and emigrated thence to America in 1850. From Eutaw Whig. December 10, 1869 Married in Greene County on the 2nd by REV. S. U. SMITH, Mr. W. L. GARRETT to Miss M. W. GLOVER. In this place on the 8th by REV. G. W. BROWN, Mr. H. 0. VOSS to Miss BETTIE MASON. The wife of JUDGE S. F. RICE died in Montgomery on the 30th. December 17, 1869 Married at the residence of the bride's mother on the 7th by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, Mr. D. W. MITCHELL to Miss ANNIE P. LOWERY, all of this county. At the residence of the bride's father on the 29th of November by REV. JAMES W. PHILLIPS, Mr. H. R. FOSS to Miss SARAH FRANCES JENKINS (5 A, daughter of JOS. W.), all of this county. December 24, 1869 Mrs. DR. BYRNE of Mobile, a lady 63 years old is giving literary readings in Montgomery. RICHARD MOORE, one of the eldest and best citizens of Calhoun County was killed a few days ago by being struck on the head by a stone thrown by one LUNEY THOMPSON. Died in this county on the 19th, THOMAS AUGUSTUS (23 T), son of THOMAS A. SEALES (2 A) aged 22. Consumption... At his residence in Sumter County on the 16th, THOS. JARMAN, SR. (14 NC) aged about 72. (See will in our Vol. 32.) Born in Onslow County, North Carolina and moved to Alabama about 35 years ago. Though uneducated, he possessed a strong and well-balanced mind...A kind father but kinder grandfather, he supported and tenderly cared for the largest family of orphaned grandchildren in the county...His wife survives him, stricken with age...
