Died in Mobile on the 4 November, 1869, Mrs. SARAH AUGUSTA FLETCHER, wife of COL. RICHARD M. BECK in the 54th year of her age. January 7, 1870 Married on the 23rd by LEWELEN LEWIS, Esq., Mr. T. F. FORD and ANN E. JOHNSON, both of Greene County. At the residence of the bride's father on the 20th by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, Mr. ROBERT A. ESTES of Marengo County to Miss SUSAN M. MARTIN of Sumter County. DR. A. B. COLLINS charged with murder of DR. HAUGHEY broke jail at Moulton on the 17th. January 14, 1870 A daughter of Mrs. SALTMARSH of Camden was burned to death last week. CAPT. JULIAN McKENZIE of Eufaula was drowned on the 4th. He was Captain of Eufaula Light Artillery during the war. January 21, 1870 On the 10th, a Mr. PATTERSON killed JAMES SIMMONS in Somerville. Both fond of whiskey. REV. J. M. SPALDING, (died Jan. 14, 1870, born Jan. 27, 1833) a Baptist minister for several years past a resident of Huntsville died in that place a few days ago. January 28, 1870 Married on the 25th at the residence of the bride's father by REV. J. W. PHILLIPS, Mr. JOHNSON C. WILLIAMS and Miss BETTIE M., (4 A, N. in Census) daughter of JOHN C. GILLESPIE (34 V). WILLIAM GILBERT (37 NC, son of WM., Sr.) was born in Jones County, North Carolina July 23, 1813 and died in Sumter County, Ala. January 12, 1870. Was an honest, industrious and economical man and had accumulated a handsome property...Left a wife and 5 little children... Departed this life January 8, 1870 near Intercourse, Sumter County, Alabama, MARY ELEANOR LOWE (20 A), consort of G(REENE) B. LOWE (25 SC) aged 40 years 9 months and 18 days. Dutiful wife, genial companion and affectionate mother. In 1847, she professed religion and joined the church at Ellis' Chapel in this county...Leaves her husband and 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy. Mr. E. J. BELSER shot and killed W. H. HOGAN in Montgomery last week. BELSER charges HOGAN with having seduced his daughter whom he had been engaged to marry. He subsequently married another lady. February 11. 1870 Married on the 3rd at the residence of the bride's father by REV. W. H. PASLEY, Mr. ISAAC R. WILSON and Miss MARY WRENN. WADE R. THOMAS, Esq. formerly of this county has removed to Meridian where he has purchased a residence. RYLAND RANDOLPH, Editor of the Tuscaloosa Monitor was married last week to Miss KATIE C(LAY) WITHERS of Tuscaloosa. The Montgomery papers announce the death from pneumonia of Mr. E. J. BELSER, who was under bond for killing JAMES H. HOGAN in that city some 3 weeks ago. February 18, 1870 Married on the 8th by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH at the residence of the bride's father Mr. EDWARD CARROL (1 EDMOND, 1 son of JACOB P.) and Miss ALICE M. COATES, all of this county. On the 10th by REV. W. H. PASLEY, Mr. GEORGE H. McCAIN (21 A) of Mississippi to Mrs. MARGARET RICHARDSON of this county. On the 1st, a Mr. BULLARD shot and killed JOHN CHITWOOD in Jackson County. February 25, 1870 Dwelling of Mrs. MALCOLM SMITH near Prattville destroyed by fire. Loss $8,000. Deputy Sheriff ROGERS of Franklin County shot and killed HORACE SUMMERHILL, JR. of Lauderdale County last week. 95. - (3395)
