RACHEL d. April 9, 1891. Family tradition says JANE left Va. in 1810. Bapt. min., he had 12 children. AVA's husband ISAAC JAMES. Mrs. MARION W. (ERMA COLEMAN) THORNE, 2454 40th Avenue, Meridian, Miss. 39301, Sept. 12, 1977, "My husbands anc. ROBERT ROAN (ROWAN) SHELTON b. Va. 25 May 1796 d. in Sumter Co. Ala. Jan. 8, 1870. Spent much of his early married life in Ala. Wife RACHEL CYNTHIA STURGES b. NC 20 July 1810, 2d child b. 1830 Ala. His dau. AVA MYRILLA was my husband's ggm b. 28 Nov. 1839. Next child b. Miss. 1841. He was in Pontotoc Co. Miss, until Civil War, then moved to Sumter Co. where both d. We have visited the graves in Chestnut Grove Cemetery." Married on the 13th by REV. C. C. VAUGHAN at the residence of the bride's mother, Mr. HENRY McELROY (see his obit, on p. 27) to Miss LULA WOOD, all of Sumter. September 1, 1871 Died Aug. 2Kth near Belmont in this county, JOHN HENRY, son of DR. F. E. and HELEN M. DAVIDSON aged 12 years 4 months and 18 days. R. T. SAMPLE, deceased. E. A. SAMPLE, administratrix. JAMES 0'BANNON, deceased. J. G. HARRIS, administrator with will annexed. Mr. J. P. HARRIS was shot and killed last Sat. in Oxford by Mr. SAM MORGAN. September 8, 1871 Married on 31 August in Livingston at the residence of G. W. DAIN-WOOD by REV. C. B. DuBOSE, Mr. JOHN A. COLLIER of Columbia, Miss, to Miss R. E. DAINWOOD, daughter of HENRY B. TROTT of this place. GEN. THOMAS W. McCOY of Mobile died in Baltimore on 1st. In Madison Co. on 17th, JOHN MARKHAM, while sitting at supper was killed by shot through window. September 15, 1871 A few days ago, DANIEL HAWKINS was drowned in Choccolocco Creek. In Dekalb Co. Aug. 24, BEN WHEELER shot and killed KINNEY KEAN. On 17th, near Blount Springs, DAVID LANDINGHAM was cut and mortally wounded by a Mr. HAYS. An old man named McVAY was found dead near Montgomery and Eufaula Depot in Montgomery on 1st. September 22, 1871 M(EREDITH) W. LYNN (30 A), deceased. A(GNES) E. LYNN, administratrix. September 29, 1871 Married at the residence of the bride's mother by REV. S. J. BINGHAM, Mr. R. H. HALE to Miss M. C. McDONALD, all of this county. The wife of PETER M. BOX, member of Congress from the 5th District died near Huntsville on 12th Sept. JUDGE A. H. HUTCHINSON, editor of Tuscaloosa Observer died in that city last Sat. after an illness of some weeks. Mr. THOMAS NICHOLS, a planter living in upper portion of Clark Co. was killed by a negro a few days ago. Died at Beckley's Landing on 15th, J. N. COOK, son of DR. J. M. and MARY E. COOK aged 15 years 5 months and 15 days. October 6, 1871 FANNIE HAMMOND and her husband, M. R. HAMMOND filed a petition alleging they are joint owners in common with ISABELLA CHILES, wife of WALTER L. CHILES, ISABELLA DEARMAN, wife of THOMAS DEARMAN, JOHN McKINZY, CHARLOTT BREWSTER (24 NC), wife of HIRAM BREWSTER (27 A), MARGARET GRAHAM, MARGARET SYLVESTER, wife of NATHAN SYLVESTER and NANCY JACKSON of certain real estate. 104. - (3404)
