A. B. DELOACH of Rusk Co. Texas (formerly of Livingston, Ala.) to Miss FANNIE E. YOUNG of Marshall, Tex. DR. J. M. MAYES of York Station in this county, a most estimable gentleman and good physician died on last Wednesday the 6th of malarial hemorrhagic fever. December 15, 1871 Died on 17 November 1871 little MILESON, only daughter of L. L. and CAROLINE CLARY aged 2 years 11 months and 27 days... Died Oct. 15, 1871 near St. Stephens, Ala. after a lingering illness, Mrs. JENNIE C. SPEED, wife of JAMES SPEED of Sumter Co. Ala. Leaves a devoted husband, two children and a large circle of relatives. M. E. Church. MAJOR W. S. KNOX (1812 sol.-q.v.), for many years an honored citizen of Selma, died on night of 6th at Carlowville, Dallas Co., Ala. December 22, 1871 Married on the 19th by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, Mr. JOSEPH ARRINGTON to Miss MARY E. DuBOSE, all of this county. In Mobile on the 18th, Mr. A. W. COCKRELL of Livingston to Miss EVA NASH of Mobile, formerly of Livingston. GOWDEY ) December 29, 1871 JOEL HUNNICUTT (66 SC) of Shelby Co. aged about 95 killed a buck, hams of which weighed 20 and 24 lbs. respectively. January 5, 1872 SKETCH OF JOHN ANTHONY WINSTON (37 A), EX-GOVERNOR OF ALABAMA. Tribute to his Memory. Born in Madison Co. Alabama about 1811. Oldest child of WILLIAM and MARY WINSTON. His mother was MARY COOPER (15 A), a sister of WILLIAM COOPER and L. B. COOPER, distinguished lawyers of North Alabama. ANTHONY WINSTON, grandfather of GOVERNOR WINSTON was born in Hanover Co. Va., and was a captain in the Revolutionary War. He moved from Va. to Tennessee and settled about 1 mile from the Hermitage. JOHN ANTHONY WINSTON married in early manhood, MARY JONES of Madison County, Ala. a sister of his partner, JOEL W. JONES. She was mother of GOVERNOR WINSTON'S only child, Mrs. AGNES W. GOLDSBY, now of Mobile; but she died when her daughter was only a few years old. GOVERNOR WINSTON married again, but had no children. In 1834 he moved from Franklin County to Sumter Co. near Gainesville (gives political record in detail). Was COLONEL of 8th Alabama regiment and served in campaign of peninsula of Williamsburg and Seven Pines...He will be buried beside the mother of his child. A. F. HENDERSON, late joint proprietor and editor of the Montgomery Mail committed suicide at Tuskegee on the 22nd. January 12, 1872 WILLIAM HUNTINGTON (he was son of ROSWELL, Rev. sol.), jeweller of Marion, 79 years old, has just engraved perfectly formed letters on a finger ring made for himself. Mr. PAUL LYONS of Mobile Co. died on the 21st aged nearly 111 years. He was the oldest man in Mobile Co. and leaves a large number of descendants . 107. - (3407)
