September 26, 1873 Married on 24th at residence of Mr. I. W. HORN by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, COL. E. S. GULLEY and Miss CYMANTHA CAMPBELL, all of this county. Died at his residence 10 miles northwest of Gainesville, Ala. Aug. 17, 1873, Mr. JAMES B. IVY (32 V) in his 55th year. Native of Southampton Co. Va. and remained in that state until 21 years of age when he moved to Tenn, and from there to Pickens Co. Ala. in 1842. Left an orphan at an early age. Had few advantages of education. Faults were but human. Died Monday night last, WILL LITTLE (45 NC), an old citizen of this county aged about 67. Was last of four brothers who came to Sumter from N. C. in 1832. REV. THOMAS WALLACE of Congregational Methodist Church residing in Cleburne Co. aged 65 died on 11th from bite of a rattlesnake. October 3, 1873 Mr. U. A. HARRIS of Union, who emigrated to Texas about 12 months ago has returned to Greene, satisfied "to fight it out on the Alabama Line." October 10, 1873 Mr. FEISTER FOY (32 SC), one of the early settlers of Sumter Co. and since the war a citizen of Meridian died in that city on the 1st. Mrs. McLEROY of Shelby Co. was killed a few days ago by being thrown from a buggy. October 17, 1873 Tribute of respect to Miss ELLA LYNN, who died suddenly; by CUBA GRANGE of the Patrons of Husbandry. On 10th of Nov. the administrator will sell lands of J. C. BENNETT, deceased. October 24, 1873 We regret to learn that COL. L(AUNCELOT) V. UNDERWOOD (41 NC), an old and prominent citizen of Sumter died a few days ago after a brief illness. Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS, formerly of Selma was murdered by a negro in Marengo Co. a few days ago. October 31, 1873 From Demopolis News-Journal: Died in Baltimore Oct. 21 of heart disease, REV. F(RANCIS) R. HANSON. Came to Ala. in early days of her history. (Prot. Epis. - Cred, in Greene Co. June 1839. Rector of St. John's Church, b. Greene Co. 1845.) Dr. KENDALL, Lowndes Co. and his sister of Dallas Co. have become heirs to $40,000 in La. Mr. ALEX. P. HOGAN, who left Tuscaloosa many years ago for a western state has returned to his old home satisfied there is no better country than this. MAJ. S. F. MILLER, a gentleman well-known in this state died last Wed. at Columbus, Ga. He was many years editor of a Whig paper at Tuscaloosa. November 7, 1873 Estate of PRUDENCE LOWRY (40 T, w. of VERNAL, 43 NC), deceased. D. W. MITCHELL, adm'r. HON. THOMAS J. JUDGE (Lowndes Co., 34 SC) has removed from Montgomery to Greenville. On 20th, the wife of DR. McGEHEE near Fayetteville died from effects of bums, from kerosene lamp. November 14, 1873 Married by REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH on the 6th at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. L. A. McLAIN to Miss EMMA TURNER all of this county. Lands of the estate of JOHN RITTER, deceased near Warsaw for sale. Mr. M. F. COKER a Tuscaloosa carpenter who had been putting up some buildings here died last week. Mrs. SARAH HALL aged 103 died in Conecuh County the other day. 118. - (3418)
