May 22. 1874 Mr. JOEL EARLY MATTHEWS (40 G), a citizen of Dallas since 1831 died in Selma on the 11th. Married on the 13th at the residence of REV. A. R. SCARBOROUGH, by REV. J. M. PATTON, Mr. WM. H. HAWKINS and Miss ALICE G. SCARBOROUGH, all of this county. ELIZABETH D. HARWOOD, deceased. SAMUEL B. M. HARWOOD, administrator with will annexed. May 29, 1874 S(IDNEY) T. PRINCE and wife of Choctaw clebrated the anniversary of their marriage among relatives in this place last night. Aunt POLLY THOMAS (47 SC) of Calhoun County aged 73 walks 9 miles and carries produce for sale. Mr. F. M. WEEMS of Butler County (to Mrs. GLENN) was lying at the point of death a few days ago from effects of a wound received in the battle of Sharpsburg more than 10 years ago. June 5, 1874 Married on the 28th at the residence of the bride's father, F. B. MOORE by REV. CALDWELL, Mr. S. P. BURKE of Garner's Station, Miss, and Miss SALLIE P. MOORE of Sumter Co. Ala. W. E. June 12, 1874 Died (57/1817) of pneumonia near Warsaw, June 3, Mrs. TABITHA ROGERS (33 NC), consort of JOSEPH ROGERS (44 NC) aged about 57, Greenville (Mrs. GLENN) papers please copy. Mr. THOMAS H. KENNEDY has removed to Little Rock, Ark. He was of Meridian and formerly of Sumter Co. Ala. June 19, 1874 Died on the 15th at his residence in Sumter County, Mr. HUGH LEMON in his 48th year. June 26, 1874 Married June 14 at Soule Chapel, M. E. Church South by REV. ALEX. HOOD, DR. HAMET PINSON, late of Arkansas and Miss ANNIE GILBERT of Sumter Co. July 3, 1874 Mr. WILLIAM R. RAMSEY (14 A, s. of AMBROSE K. 55 NC) died near Ramsey's Station on the 26th. ARCHIBALD TYSON (45 NC) an old citizen of Lowndes died June 23, of cancer of the face. JAMES BRANTLEY, a citizen of Escambia County was shot and killed by JAMES HAYS at Garland on the 18th. July 10, 1874 DR. R(EUBEN) P(ARKER) VAIL (35 NC), a former resident of Sumter died in Meridian last Sunday. Mr. W. L. CAIN of Gadsden on the 17th took a fatal dose of strychnine through a mistake for quinine. GEN. JAMES CANTLEY, a well known citizen of Alabama died at his house in Russell County on the 30th (From Mobile Graphic). The venerable DR. LOVICK PIERCE, 90 years old and foremost in the Southern Methodist Church is seriously ill at Macon, Ga. July 17, 1874 HENRY HENDRICK (45 NC), an old and esteemed citizen of Choctaw Co. died on the 3rd. DR. H. H. HIPPLE of Hale Co. was drowned on the 2nd. MARION F. LEEMAN, MISSOURI M. LEEMAN, JAMES LEEMAN, non-residents and next of kin of HUGHEY LEEMAN, deceased. NANCY A. LEEMAN, widow of deceased filed petition to probate will. July 24, 1874 Mr. K(ENNY) C. HALL, an old citizen of this county died at Cuba Station last Sunday aged about 58. 122. - (3422)
