MRS. LOOMIS, relict of the late JOHN Q. LOOMIS died at Wetumpka on Sat. last. MRS. MOLLIE POND wife of MR. GEORGE POND died at Fayetteville, Talladega Co. on 2nd. July 20, 1871 Died in Talladega on 4th, June, MRS. MARY L. NASH aged 58. July 27, 1871 Death of C. R. RICE, a former gallant member of the Scouts attached to 8th Alabama Regiment. Died early yesterday morning after a short illness and his remains will be interred in Magnolia Cemetery (Mobile Register, July 19) August 3, 1871 Died-THOMAS R. HUNNICUT at Calera last Monday. August 10, 1871 Death of COL. JACK THORINGTON, an old and honored citizen of Montgomery. Died yesterday morning at half past 2 o'clock. Softening of the brain (Montgomery Advance, Aug. 3). August 17,1871 LT. FILLEBROWN, an account of whose death is given in another column had a wife and 5 children, one of whom he had never seen. August 24, 1871 Death of SAMUEL LEEPER, Esq. of Shelby County died at the residence of his son, JUDGE LEEPER in Columbiana on Thur. last. One of early settlers of Talladega County. He aided in establishing and was 1st Superintendant of Sabbath School ever organized in the county. In every respect a good man. He had been a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years and died as he lived--a true Christian. (Talladega Reporter) September 7, 1871 W. P. MASSEY, a lawyer of Marion died at Elyton on 29th of consumption. The many friends of MR. ALEX. SMITH of Coosa County will regret to learn that he died at Talladega Springs on 30th. Old and very highly esteemed citizen extensively known throughout this and adjacent counties. (Rockford Sentinel) September 14,1871 MR. PETER E. HARRIS, residing a few miles from Dadeville, Tallapoosa County, committed suicide on Tue. last. September 21 1871 Death of COL. D. H. HUYETT last Sat. morning last at his residence 4 miles East of this place. MR. JOSEPH SAVORY died in Selma on 6th in 84th year. From an obituary notice in Southern Argus we learn he was born in Dunkirk, France near coast of Flanders on 2 December 1787 and grew to manhood among stormy scenes of French Revolution. When scarcely more than a boy he served as drum major in famous army of Italy and was not yet 19 when he followed Napoleon in the terrible passage of the bridge of Lodi on 1 May 1791. In 1811 he came to America first landing at Philadelphia but afterwards came to Alabama to join colony of French emigrants who settled in Marengo County. Had lived in Alabama ever since. HON J. F. DOWDELL, prominent citizen of Alabama died at his residence in Auburn Thr. morning. Served 6 years in Congress. During the war he commanded 37th Ala. Regiment. (Montgomery Advertiser 14th) October 5, 1871 Married at Haroersville on 28th MR. AUGUSTUS W, McGRAW to MISS LAURA McCLANAHAN, daughter of the late JUDGE McCLANAHAN of this co. Near Montevallo on 4th, MR. ROBERT D. HARRIS to MISS NANNIE A. WOOD, daughter of ALMATH WOOD. 130 - (3430)
